Overview
At T45 the sheet stops being cladding and starts being structure. The profile spans directly between purlins without a deck beneath it and, correctly fixed, contributes diaphragm action to the roof plane.
That has consequences for the frame. Designers routinely take a line of purlins out of the secondary steelwork when they move to a structural deck, and the saving in steel, fabrication and erection time often exceeds the difference in sheet cost.
Structural profiles are specified against a load-span table, not a rule of thumb. Send us the purlin spacing, the design snow and wind loads and the fixing pattern and we will confirm the profile before you commit it to a drawing.
