Birch Line Residence

The roof is the largest single element on the building and is treated as one surface: a long ridge, four hipped planes, and no dormer or rooflight to break the field. Both chimneys are clad in the same dark metal as the covering, so they read as part of the roof rather than as objects standing on it.

Graphite roof, grey render and near-black window frames hold the whole house in one narrow tonal range. The woodland behind supplies the only real colour in the frame.
